TeenWebSafety.com http://teenwebsafety.com Internet Safety Blog For Teens Thu, 25 Jun 2009 05:46:46 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8 en hourly 1 Facebook Safety http://teenwebsafety.com/facebook-safety/ http://teenwebsafety.com/facebook-safety/#comments Thu, 25 Jun 2009 05:46:46 +0000 admin http://teenwebsafety.com/?p=63 Facebook is one of the most popular websites in the world. This is a great way to connect with friends and family, while also meeting others. Of course, you should be worried about your safety when using Facebook. No, you don’t have to dwell on this day in and day out but it should definitely be in the back of your mind. If you are not careful you may put yourself in a bad situation. Is that what you want to do?

Facebook safety starts with knowing who you are communicating with. There is nothing wrong with talking to other people, those you don’t know, but you should not go too far with this at the start. Unfortunately, there are people who use Facebook to prey on others. This is especially true of teens and kids who are even younger. You need to be aware of this, and only become friends with people you can trust. If something looks suspicious after you start communicating with somebody, make sure you block them.

As a parent you should teach your kid as much as you can about Facebook safety. Let them know that you are aware of the benefits, but that there are also drawbacks that can lead to major problems. The more you tell them about Facebook safety the better chance there is that they will stay 100 percent safe at all times.

There is no denying that Facebook safety has been a topic of conversation as of late. Are you staying safe? How about your kids?

Free Online Tutoring http://teenwebsafety.com/free-online-tutoring/ http://teenwebsafety.com/free-online-tutoring/#comments Wed, 24 Jun 2009 01:30:14 +0000 admin http://teenwebsafety.com/?p=40 Are you interested in taking part in online tutoring sessions? If so, you are not alone. After all, it is much easier for many people to get involved with online tutoring as opposed to staying after school or going somewhere else to meet with a teacher. That being said, you need to know the pros and cons of free online tutoring before you move forward with this idea. It is very important to ensure your safety when it comes to free online tutoring. Yes, there are ways that you can get what you want out of this process, but only if you are sure of what you are getting involved with.

To start, do some research on the company that is offering free online tutoring. Make sure they are legitimate. As a parent, it is your job to check into the background of the company. If possible, you may want to ask for references. This is one of the best ways to separate those who really offer a good service to those who are trying to get close to your child for another reason.

Does free really mean free? You also want to ask yourself this question when it comes to free online tutoring. Yes, you can get a good deal if you look around. But you really need to make sure that free means free before you get started.

There are legitimate online tutoring companies. If you are going to sign your child up for one, be sure that you are getting high quality free online tutoring with no strings attached.

MySpace Safety http://teenwebsafety.com/myspace-safety/ http://teenwebsafety.com/myspace-safety/#comments Tue, 23 Jun 2009 22:58:02 +0000 admin http://teenwebsafety.com/?p=34 MySpace is a popular social networking site that is not going away anytime in the near future. A large number of people on MySpace are teenagers. If this sounds like you, it is important that you are aware of how to stay safe when using this type of site. Remember, MySpace is not the only social networking site out there. That being said, they all pose the same issues. You need to do whatever it takes to stay safe when using these sites.

Here are a few MySpace safety tips that you should keep in mind:

1. Don’t give out personal information on MySpace. You never want to share your phone number, address, or other related details with people you do not know. This may never come back to haunt you, but you never know when the wrong person will get their hands on your information.

2. If you feel threatened you should cease all communication with the other party. There are people who use MySpace for all the wrong reasons. If necessary, let your parents in on what is going on.

3. Don’t accept just anyone as your friend. If you are selective you have a much better chance of avoiding people who want to talk with you for all the wrong reasons.

These three MySpace safety tips are important. You should use them to your advantage if you are a teenager using this site. The same is true if you are a parent attempting to monitor your teen’s use.

Teens and Body Image http://teenwebsafety.com/teens-and-body-image/ http://teenwebsafety.com/teens-and-body-image/#comments Tue, 23 Jun 2009 22:53:40 +0000 admin http://teenwebsafety.com/?p=29 In today’s day and age, it seems that more and more teens are insecure with their bodies. They believe that in order to look good they have to model themselves after those that they see on television. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Unfortunately, it is often times difficult for teens to understand this. Teens and body image problems are nothing to take lightly. In fact, if these issues are not taken care of right away they can turn into big problems over time.

Teens that are insecure with their body image often times turn to others to hear just how good they look. For instance, some teens will begin to meet strangers online because they are the ones that will give them praise. The main problem with this is that the person giving praise may be doing so for all the wrong reasons. They are simply trying to draw you in as a way of getting closer and eventually getting what they want.

As a parent of a teen you need to keep a watch on how he or she feels about their body. If something is wrong in this area you should take corrective action at once. There are entirely too many teens that are harming themselves or jeopardizing their safety because of the way they see their body.

Teens and body image is a topic that is hotly discussed by many parents on a regular basis. Make sure your teen knows that he or she is beautiful the way they are.

Tutorials for Teens http://teenwebsafety.com/tutorials-for-teens/ http://teenwebsafety.com/tutorials-for-teens/#comments Sun, 21 Jun 2009 00:36:18 +0000 admin http://teenwebsafety.com/?p=26 Sometimes teens need to see something in front of them in order to understand it. This is particularly true when it comes to learning how big of a problem online safety is becoming. Many teens have the “it can never happen to me” attitude. As a parent, you know that this is a big problem because problems are lurking around every corner. This is something that you need to teach your teen as soon as possible. One of the best ways you can do this is through tutorials for teens. There are many online tutorials that can teach about everything from social networking safety to cyber bullying and everything in between.

Why not watch some of these tutorials with your teen? This is something that many parents never do. Instead, they find the tutorials and send them to their teen. But since they do not take the time to explain or watch with them, all of the good information falls on deaf ears. It is important to watch these tutorials with your teen; this will help to ensure that they soak in all the information.

If you are interested in tutorials for teens you do not have to look any further than the internet. You will be able to find all the information you need from reputable sources. Once you have a few tutorials that suit your needs, show them to your teen and see what they think. Remember, their feedback is important. What they tell you will help you better teach them in the future.
